We allow our party chiefs to take home the survey vehicles. (This benefits us, as they aren't all parked at the office and grouped up as a target at night.)
Our vehicle policy seems outdated and I was just wondering if anyone had one that they would be willing to share that I could use as a starting point.
The policy we had was: dont DWI, dont drive like an average driver( speeding wrecklessly etc etc) and remember that this is a reward and a privilege.?ÿ
The only real big schism comes with the lability part, and maybe discuss that with your Umbrella agent, in the hypothetical, to see how they approach that for their workflow, as they cover you currently.
Fleet tracking services.
Be sure to edit out any commentary, I read one that went on and on about what a great gift and privilege?ÿ it was ad nauseam. Fifteen pages that could not even tell you how to get an oil change.?ÿ
Sometimes a little trust will inspire better performance than hammering on and on, locking the fuel card on weekends etc.
?ÿ
Our great insurance overlords just decreed that all our vehicles must have a GPS tracker.?ÿ I don't like it, mostly because I view insurance as the origin of many of our county's problems.?ÿ For awhile now I've been perplexed as to how dentists and eye doctors seemed to suddenly become as wealthy as MDs.?ÿ A recent applicant who declined to work for us due to our lack of a dental and vision policy provided me the clue I needed.?ÿ Just like health care, dental and vision became ridiculously expensive due to employer's providing insurance policies that cover it.
Perhaps we should try to convince a few employers to provide boundary insurance policies?

Hiring reliable adults usually works out well.
When you pick a wolf in sheep's clothing, it's less expensive to fire them if they don't invoke the disability of alcoholic first and the insurance company won't cancel the policy.

I'm thinking that a vehicle policy doesn't shield the company from liability, but just gives some leverage if you're looking for a reason to fire someone.
It's only real value is probably in the employees thinking that it has value.
....just gives some leverage if you're looking for a reason to fire someone.
When you're looking for reasons to fire people you probably are in the wrong position and career.
Policies shouldn't be reasons to fire people, but to make sure they understand why and how a company operates.
HR dept have evolved into protect the company and shun the employees.
A wrong outcome of the process.
IMHO.
ANYway... Reward your employees by bringing them onboard because you believe they can help meet the goals and direction of the company. Not add liability and ballast for a sinking ship. Nor plug holes just to stop the leaking temporarily.
And I'm not saying You are looking to fire some one just giving an example of my personal perspective.

No rainbows and unicorns?
?ÿ
I'm not at a place that has these, but I have been.?ÿ I was just trying to point out that a vehicle policy probably isn't going to keep a company from being sued, its only power is leverage against the employee after the fact.?ÿ Same goes for sexual harassment policies
Understood. Just flying the Swiss flag of neutrality.
Too many people have suffered poor management process and it's always a relief to survive them and learn to not do as they did.
I'm in the HR training mill at the moment and just ripped them for invoking aircrew doctrine and In loco Parentis and even using the word exigency all whilst blasting through case law with legal quotation for people that are attorneys. We're not. Wrong audience training also doesn't alleviate liability because you required us to sit through it and answer some questions.

Hopefully someone has approached the OP with the request in a PM to keep it simple.
Hijack over.
For now.

There are so many lawyers in Fl you don't have to worry about any of that stuff, at least as far as traffic accidents are concerned. No matter who or what was at fault everybody from the President of the company that made the vehicle right on down to you and your dog will be sued.
