If ever you visited the web site of my employer, Underhill Geomatics Ltd, i'd guess it was to check out Copan, iPJC or Free42 since i plug those softwares from time to time. But because the company actually earns its keep by doing surveying and mapping, there was also plenty of that on the web site too. Problem was, it was rather patchy in quality and very out-of-date in places.
We recently spent a few of months redesigning and rewriting the whole site and adding lots of new content, especially on the land and engineering survey projects and services side. While we're still fine-tuning things, we're quite proud of the result.
If you like to critique web sites -- or are even looking for ideas -- go check it out at www.underhill.ca and tell me what you think. Praise is nice 😉 but so too is constructive criticism. Cheers.
Overall, not bad
Criticism, only this:
Personally, I wouldn't probably put a Leica 399 (or is it a 299) GPS on the first page that people visit. Very very obsolete. And the dude should have a name tag on his (a bit too clean) helmet.
Basically, I would change the cover picture, not inviting for me.
Cheers,
Mine ain't so great either, but I don't broadcast it
1) The dude's hard hat is on backwards. WTF. What no sun, so why the sunglasses? Plus the color blue won't cut for OSHA.
2) Why is he carrying two radios?
3) With all that gear, I sure hope you could drive to the location because it sure looks remote. Show your truck off too, including signage.
4) I'm not a big fan of the loser Canucks. Get rid of one of the Sedin twins, and you'll do better..... Go Wings!!
...Roadhand, a little backup dude.... (ok, off topic. But I do hope your riots have subsided)
cheers
One minor and one major issue.
- Your employment area provides contact information, but no information about current positions available. If you tell people exactly what each branch is looking for then you are more likely to get targeted applications from professionals who can match your needs.
- Your ftp area is wide open to public access. I was able to look at your projects, read your saved emails and other documents, and download anything I want. Given that I work for one of your competitors, this may not be a good idea.
> 1) The dude's hard hat is on backwards. WTF. What no sun, so why the sunglasses? Plus the color blue won't cut for OSHA.
He's working in Canada so OSHA regs aren't relevant. I agree with you about the sunglasses though.
> 2) Why is he carrying two radios?
One for the survey crew, the other is probably for talking to the helicopter that delivered them to the site.

Around here just about everywhere is remote, and there's a lot of surveying that get's done without a truck. You fly in with gear to do the job, plus enough supplies to either wait or possibly walk out if the bird can't get back to pick you up.
Thank you Steve, with all due respect. Sometimes us flatlanders here in sunny AZ forget about remote access and stuff (no mountains here either...lol). It just stood out to me, and he asked.
But it looks like a good site IMO.
Great job...one thing I like to see on web sites is a bit of information about the current owners and key staff people. I think it personalizes the company for prospective clients.
Is variety spelled differently in Canada? Like Colour and Labour?
Underhill Geomatics Ltd. offers a wide variaty of surveying services
We got a glossy brochure from a company my co-worker used to work for. They actually had a picture of him with another Surveyor with a set of plans spread out on the hood of the truck. We said he should get royalties or something.
Yikes. ftp://public:public@ftp.underhill.ca/29-01.jpg
On the critiques so far
It's actually a composite (fake) photo. The guy (who's an Oilers fan!) was maybe standing in town and he's been pasted into a mountain scene. I think we need to replace it.
(The riots ended as quickly as they began and, in true candian fashion, thousands of volunteers spontaneously turned up the next morning to help clear everything up and post apology notes on police cars and damaged shop windows.)
Thanks for exposing our security hole and spelling error (i think there's plenty more to be fixed).

Underhill Geomatics since 1913.....true visionaries;-)
The logo has the word underhill three times, plus geomatics....seems a bit awkward.
