A client of mine has asked if I know of a connection for ordering trees.
I would imagine the closer to Western Ky/Tn the better on shipping. But right now it seems more a matter of the volume of the order and apparently an odd size request.
There is supposed to be a supplier south of Chattanooga, but he has not been able to get contact info.
What he needs is a total of about 6000 trees (a combination of bald cypress, various oaks, etc - +/-1300 of each species) one and a half diameter wrapped in burlap.
Anyone have a friend or associate they would recommend to be able to fill such an order?
Your State surely has a Foresty Department somewhere. They give away all sorts of trees and sell others at very reasonable prices. Tell them they are going in a windbreak or shelterbelt or some such usage that is strongly encouraged.
Yes, around here, in Massachusetts, our local tree society has a big tree sale on Arbor Day, in the spring. You might take a look at Greenwood Nursery, but I don't know if they carry the types of trees you're looking for. Good luck

He is right about that. I used to stop by the local forestry/ranger office and then to pick up a topo map or just ask things (since I was new guy in the state). They would sell "seedling"/"baby" trees for really cheap. That was when I was in the western NC mountains. Things may be different for your client.
Ask LarryP. He has a background in forestry management.
You are going to be a couple of miles from a state nursery tonight. Not sure if they sell the types or sizes, here's a link.

Click the link at the bottom to the John P. Rhody Nursery.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I let him know about the forestry suggestion.
Also, based on your suggestions, I looked at some of the forestry department websites. Some of them had links to "Christmas tree" growers. I found that several companies in the list had various cypress trees in stock as well, so he can try calling them also.
