I really like Squareup..its worked really well. All you need is a smart phone and you're good to go!

Could you clarify:

-- per type of card ( MC, Visa, Amex, etc) that you accept?
-- per customer card (ouch!) that was used?

Thanks.

Thanks Wendell. We looked into this and just signed up for it. The card reader is mailed to you for free, and you can take CC payments over the phone. There are no fees (monthly, etc.). It's 2.75% for a card swipe transaction, and 3.5% for a manually entered (pay by phone) one, which is about the same as Paypal. I like it!

Amex for sure is $7.95/month whether they use it or not. MC, Visa, hmmm I know I get charged but I don't remember if it's monthly or per project. Discover, I've never had a customer use it and I've never had been billed with a fee.

"Thanks" guys... 😛

This guy is itching to pay me, we just have to find a way via card. He's been nothing but straight up and highly appreciative of the service and information that I have provided. I'm going to look into Western Union and Paypal today. The main problem is both services will take a DEBIT card, which draws from an actual money account instead of a CREDIT card, which draws on somebody elses money... obviously.

AH, ok. I wasn't sure if you meant charge per card you swipe, which would be crazy.

You can use a credit card with PayPal, a least if you have a PayPal account. (There may be a requirement that it be a verified account or somesuch.) I use a credit card via PayPal whenever I buy stuff on eBay.

Actually, you can use a credit card with PayPal, even if you don't have a PayPal account. (It's quicker if you already have one set up.)
