> You people kill me. ....

Now, isn't that a bit extreme? Why don't we just put you down and tell you what you should have done in the beginning instead of trying to helping you solve your problem at hand. Wouldn't that be a bit nicer than committing murder?

Cliff

You misunderstand. I was talking about if the fellow moved from where there was no law against murder moving to a town where there was a law against it.

Tommy

Tommy I think your recommendation to travel out of state and murder the deadbeat is way over the line, sorry man but I draw the line at illegal activities.

I will just file a lien and then sue them if need be.

I forgot, doo-da doesn't play that well outside the perimeter. 😉

Take care,
Ed

Liens only give temporary relief

Are you serious?

Murder is a crime in your state?

It's not on the island I live on.

Punt.

Collection agency.

Publicize the name so the rest of us don't get burnt.

Get it up front next time.

Work for someone else and let them worry about it.

Tommy

That was funny, but the point still stands. It doesn't matter if you are from Mars, you have to follow the laws of the jurisdiction you are in. So, file that lein.

Is a "mechanics lien" possible in your state?

Number one: Laws vary from State to State
Number two: I had to file a Limited Liability Suit against an out-of-state dead beat and won. I could file in her home county and State or I could file in the county in which the work was performed or I could file in my home county because she was not an in-state resident. Obviously, I chose my home county to make her defense all that more expensive. She had to hire an attorney to represent her, as did I. However, I was able to demand she pay my legal fees and filings fees as well as interest in addition to the original amount. I got it all!

**Update **Deadbeat out of State Client - What to do?

Thank you all for your excellent input, it was a big help. Believe it or not I almost never have trouble getting paid (knock on wood) and am therefore admittedly not very well versed in bad debt collections.

I don't know if the mention of filing a lien did it or if they just decided to pony up what they owe, however they just contacted me and said the check is on the mail.

We shall see...
