I'm redoing my whole insurance program.

Big applications and lots of comeback questions. Interestingly I've gotten a few questions back from the underwriters through the broker about things on my website. My website is stale for sure and needs to be redone. But there is another aspect for those with websites revealed to me this week. It's used by many other than potential clients, so you need to think about the content and presentation and keep it up to date.

As far as Facebook, I didn't use it very much and shut down my account a while back. Now for those that talk to everybody about everything on Facebook you might want to be a little more careful. As far as this site, could be damaging or good. I use a somewhat anonymous user-name, might not turn up a lot in search engines but then others post your real name in their posts so you are exposed to your passions. Maybe I should have keep my handle from a previews life at POB. One thing about my name is the first 4 million or so hits is a baseball player from the 1940's.

Anyway, the world is watching you online, it's probably permanent! It can have an effect on many important things in your life.

A colleague of mine ran into a similar situation. Ten years ago he had a symbiotic, but separate, business with an engineer. Their main joint interest was residential development. They went big guns for a while.

Although my buddy no longer works with the engineer, he had lots of pics of the construction and completion of a number of their joint developments. He thought they would look good on his website "projects resume" (that is probably 5 or six years old).

He was renegotiating his E&O insurance. Since he does very little construction layout anymore, he noted such on his insurance app. The underwriter called him up and questioned why he had reported that only 5% of his workload was construction layout...when his website looked like he was the king-pin of construction.

I think he eventually got it hammered out. I also think he changed his website. Be careful what you portray on the internet...

About the same here. There are a couple pictures of pipeline work (trenches, excavators, etc.). They wanted to know if I was a contractor and if I did construction inspection (get in a trench I suppose). Anyway, it's on the list for the winter, Update the Website! I'm about through with the insurance, just need to sign the apps and pay the bill. I'm sort of climbing back on the treadmill, get more overhead and hopefully do more work to cover it and then some. Employees will be he last act, if I get that much work I'll need to reconsider what I actually want out of life!

I got questioned hard about the racing aspect of my web page even though the last event on the page is from the early 2000's. It got kind of nasty even though none our cars are owned by the company. In fact most of the cars are not even in my name. The closest I come to using a company vehicle is to tow with my F250.
