A few weeks ago bid with a contractor to stake some simple curb replacement. ?ÿDidn't hear anything. Tuesday a frantic phone call wanting us out there right now. From a different contractor needing stakes.
Head scratching tine, never heard from anyone, no contract, so do a bit of checking. Seems said contractor has some kind of GPS, tried to use it to stake curb and gutter, nothing worked,,,,,,,imagine that. The job was a total station job, 3 control points, coordinate list, set on one, backsight two, check into three, stake points, simple. But not with GPS, told them we were booked which was the reality anyway.
But wow!!!!
?ÿsome simple curb replacement. ?ÿ
Aint no such thing
Kerbing (english spelling here) is darned tricky - looks simple, but get it wrong and the puddles and ponding will speak for themselves
And who ever thinks that doing it with GPS will work dont know Jack
?ÿ
We do plenty of curb staking with GPS, you just have to know when to put it away and run levels through the hubs. Those who don't use GPS when it's warranted don't know jack.
GPS for curb and gutter....there are no mistakes- just consequences....

There is that invention that corrects GPS consequences,,,,,,,,,,,,the stringline.
Just be sure your string line is calibrated for ADA compliance?ÿ
Just be sure your string line is calibrated for ADA compliance?ÿ
But string lines are old fashioned, not safety compliant ( trip hazard ) and are subject to wind effects - it has to be a green beam laser?ÿ - at least it does on some of the more uptight sites we deal with 🙁

Its just a tool in the toolbox. Know when to pull it out and know when to put it away.?ÿ We stake thousands of feet a curb each year with no issues using GPS.?ÿ
Do curb machines follow green lazar beams?
I've seen one GPS controlled machine that is larger than my truck and utilizes two GPS mounted antenna and one rover.
This thread hi-jack has turned into a minimum versus more than minimum curb slope conversation without ever realizing it.
I've never seen a curb pooper run on a laser.?ÿ Do you have a picture of that in operation??ÿ How do they set the slope of the laser??ÿ Do they shoot it parallel with the curb alignment??ÿ If so, how time consuming is it to adjust at in-line grade breaks??ÿ How do they do long, large radius curves?
Curb machines running on string hung every 25' is still the norm around here.?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ
Just be sure your string line is calibrated for ADA compliance?ÿ
Watched a guy as-build ADA ramps with RTK a few days ago.?ÿ Just shook my head.
Why should a curb machine be any different then a grader, paver or other machine control?
Use GPS for horizontal, use topcon laser corrector, or trimble robot total station for elevation control.
Youtube has some cool videos of laser screeds for concrete on large slab work.
But?ÿ guyz...GPS is the greatest... I can go down to my tax collector,?ÿ get coordinates and set my corners. What's so hard about this gig?
