Beautiful sunrise this morning for the opening of dove season. Anybody else doing the same?

Think ours always starts on September 1.?ÿ Heard a couple of shots yesterday morning.

For a couple of years during my high school days I went crazy over hunting dove.?ÿ Should still be locked up for violating bag limits.?ÿ Today, if I was inside a barn, I would have a 50/50 chance at being able to hit the broadside of a barn.?ÿ Unless it was a round barn, of course.?ÿ You know you can find a dead man in most round barns.?ÿ (Ancient joke)

I was up at 5:15 and in the field at 6:15. It was nice to have cool weather on opening day.

They didn't fly quite as good as last year but it was enough to keep busy.?ÿ

@rundatline they flew very well for us from just after daybreak until around 9:30 or so. I was at the edge of a field; could have limited out easily but I lost 2 in the woods behind me & was sharing some boxes of shells with my brother. We stopped for a nice BBQ & fried chicken spread lunch by 11. Ate enough of that & some desserts afterwards to grab a good nap

Did they pull the classic dip and weave maneuver??ÿ That adds to the challenge.

@holy-cow that behavior came on after about 2 hours of shooting. I guess survival instincts started kicking in when there's shots ringing off about every minute or so. You'd have some that managed to either dodge the pattern entirely or glide off to the woods line. Then there were others that were DOA before they hit the dirt with a light thud. overall it was a nice & cooler morning out in the field with friends/family. my little boy is only 1.5yrs old now (with another due in February '21) but we've already gotten him a lifetime sportsman license & I'm excited nonetheless to pass down the .410 single-shot break action that my grandfather (dad's dad) gave me as a young boy.

As young boys my brother & I started riding 4-wheelers & shooting skeet on the weekends with my dad, his buddies & their children; kids these days need more outdoors' time & interaction like that with their dads. we eventually started dove hunting & I personally loved it for the simplicity (not much prep needed & it's basically a social event if nothing is flying). then we moved to quail (unfortunately pen-raised with spaniels pointing) before getting into the occasional/seasonal duck hunt ultimately (probably my favorite despite the extra expense & lack of a place to go haha). I've deer hunted several times but the deer here are smaller & there's just not much action in it for me. Would like to go turkey hunting some time if for no other reason than to watch - it seems very interesting?ÿ
