One advantage of New Zealand's closed borders is that Kiwis are getting out and about for themselves.

We have just got back from walking the Milford Track - four days of walking through our most rugged landscape.

For over a century it has been advertised as 'The Finest Walk In The World', and for once that is not puffery or boasting. At every turn there is a new splendour to treat the eye. Even to a hardened old cynic well used to NZ's outdoors it is something very very special.

2 Milford Boat trip Day 1
5 Milford Josh swing bridge
17 Milford Josh edge

The fact that it was Joshua's 21st birthday and we got six days of heavenly weather was just a bonus.

No, real New Zealand.

This part of the country was too rugged for the film crews

@williwaw

Yup three big ones - the largest at 8.1.

But at a distance and deep, so no major damage

Tsunami warnings issued have just been lifted
