I noticed a couple of small mule deer bucks (both 2 points) gently sparring near the road the other day. They'd cautiously approach each other - engage their antlers and carefully rattle around a bit, kind of like ' I think this is how I saw them do it..."
. and I recovered a beautifully constructed 1/16th corner from 1990. The notes call for it to be on the NORTH bank of Rock Creek.... this photo was taken from the channel ( dry this time of year) of the creek , looking SSW.
.This spring board stump is directly across the creek from the corner. When I stood at the base- the notch was at chin level.
had to stop dead in the road to let these gobblers cross....
Thanks for sharing! Man, I can smell the fall time just looking at the stump pic.
About 12 years ago I was building a tree fort for my daughters on Columbus Day. I heard something coming off the hill towards me so I stopped to look. It was a nice three pointer. Not far behind him was a forked horn. They got down to the flat maybe 50' from me and commenced to sparring. Slowly, small spikes started coming down the hill to watch them and eventually spar. Before it was over, there were 11 bucks there. It was like it was a training camp. I wanted to go in and get a camera (and my wife) but knew I would spook them if I moved because I was so close. When they got done, they walked up the creek and all bedded down under some scrub oaks. Mid day. It was REALLY cool to witness.
Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.
You guys are making me really miss being in the field!
Nice sights.....
