You must be a licensed professional to be approved through NAFTA for a work permit if you are not a Canadian citizen.

In fact, most of the positions posted qualify as 'Skilled Trades and Professionals' as per the Citizenship and Immigration Canada web site.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

Check it out.

it is hot there in summer time, running a saw at +30C takes more water for surveyor than gas for chainsaw, but winter is more refreshing -30-40C, but running that saw makes you sweat probably the same because of tons of closing you have to put on 🙂

(in Alberta surveying equals chainsaw + RTK)

Doesn't Mexico, Canada, and the US have a TN immigration form
for most college graduates?

I used to go trough this process http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/skilled.asp it was a bit different back than in 2000.

It took more than 3 years since I applied to the day I got immigration visa to canada.
