You can contact me at email now listed decsurvey at charter dot net
Tim, what kind of position are you looking for, crew chief or instrument man? Do you mind traveling, or would you rather work local? Send me an email at sun.of.hemingway at gmail as I know of a couple of companies in your desired location that might benefit by bringing someone like you on board.
Hey everyone Thank you very much for the responses. Sorry i was out fishing the atlantic all day, caught some blues and some flounders and a sea gull.... <----not happy with that last catch. i really like this forum you all are very nice and so helpful.
hey, did your email have the periods between the sun of hemingway?
Check www.usajobs.gov there should be a job listed there in a few weeks, if there is not one one. Being a veteran, you move to the top of the list.
"I do this by using Trimble GPS receiver and rivers"
I sure like to buy you a beer or three and pick your brains if you ever make it to Alaska. I'd love to understand better how you guys do your work.
Congrats on the new addition to the family and thank you for stepping up to the plate. Good luck on the job hunt if you find yourself discharged. I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding work any where you choose. All the ex artillery surveyors I know are very competent.
Cheers!

Email sent, posted here in case there are any other military surveyors reading this board. I've had several in classes and shared this information with them.
You received good advice in response to your post. As a retired surveying instructor your mention of continuing your education is what I would like to support. I will be posting this to the message board as well.
Any "structured" training you received in the military will be accepted as college course level in some way. Example many colleges require at least one physical education course as part of the degree. Most will accept any military basic training as meeting and exceeding that requirement. Often you need to remind the person evaluating your documents to give you that credit.
Also all technical training courses, both tech school and OJT will convert to college level courses. I your case I'm guessing some math and basic surveying field work would be included. Again you will need to present the documents to the college for evaluation. Your resource to prepare for this is The American Council on Education and their "Military Students and Veterans" page at http://www.acenet.edu/higher-education/Pages/Military-Students-and-Veterans.aspx then the Military Transcripts link. The specialty and training level on your DD214 (discharge form) is the key to most of this. Both the level and the dates of training are addressed by the transcript advice.
