I am currently using Win XP but thinking in the near future I will need to get a new computer that will have Win 7. I understand there is a way to run TGO and have saved that proceedure but I don't know if anybody has tried GPLoad. http://www.trimble.com/support_trl.asp?pt=GPLoad&Nav=Collection-3613

I use GPLoad to download my 4000ssi because TGO seems to choke 50% of the time when I download the 4000ssi. If anybody is successfully running GPLoad in Win 7, please let me know. Also would like to know the steps you took to make it work.

I don't run GPload, but if you have it working now in XP, you can get it to work in Win7. Be sure to buy Win7 Pro, then download Windows XP Mode - it creates an easy to use WinXP virtual machine.

It's a snap, and there are no issues with a 64 bit architecture since the virtual machine emulates the 32 bit arch. that is native to XP.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like things will work if I am sure to get the Win 7 Pro version. I've been wanting to get a new computer for awhile but held off because I didn't want to loose the GPLoad option.

John, does GPLoad need a serial port? Something else to consider (:

I bought a Brainboxes ExpressCard RS232 adapter for all my RS232 devices, works way better than ANY USB/Serierl adapters I have tried!

With the XP mode in WIN7 Pro, I haven't found anything that won't run, including a 20 year old version of the DOS WildSoft program.

Hey Shelby,
Good to hear from you. Will you be at the OGUG meeting this Friday at Hollingshead Barn in Bend?

Yes, GPLoad needs a serial port but I have a serial/usb adaptor that works well. I don't recall the band at the moment.

Maybe see ya on Friday.

Yes, I plan on being at the meeting on Friday.

I had a USB solution too, it didn't work with WIN7 at all and was somewhat tempermental with Vista, the ExpressCard solution works much better than the USB adapter ever did.

Hi John

I've used Data Transfer Utility to download 4000SSI and 4600LS receivers separately from TGO. It is supported in Windows 7,

Scott
I have given up trying to use TGO to download my 4000ssi. At best, it only works 50% of the time. I have the latest issue of the dowload software and it still has problems. It will crank along like everything is fine then when it get to the end it says "so sorry to have wasted your time". Doesn't seem to matter if it is a large or small file. GPLoad always works for me and this receiver. I've talked with Trimble in the past but all they have to say is some 4000ssi receivers do that "Why don't you upgrade to a new receiver?".

Thanks for your thoughts but I guess I'll stay with GPLoad on this one. My 4400's download just fine in TGO.

Have you tried using the stand alone Data Transfer? That is the only one I use. I have downloaded 5 or 6 different 4000ssi's and many 4000sse's and never had a problem. I think I remember having to choose the correct receiver from the list on occassion, even if it was already chosen, to get it to download properly. It has been a while.

I got used to using the stand alone because the data transfer module inside of TGO would not allow you to chose the download folder. I don't know if it's still a problem but the stand alone always would.

Thanks for the thought. I can't remember if I have tried stand alone data transfer. I think I have. I will give it a shot.

Hi John,

It was the separate Data Transfer Utility program I was referring to in my post.

I trust that worked for you. I've used it to download 4000 series receivers into Windows 7 using a USB/Serial adapter cable.
