So I haven't had the time to post since my awesome visit from Jay in April. He came down to Helena from Juneau for a visit and some beer drinking and drone-ing and general goofing off. Upon his departure however, my workshop was vandalized, see attached photos. Yeah Jay, I'm calling you out! You and your 1866 spheroid! That's right man, the best model has a flattening ratio of 298.257222101. Alternatively described as an ellipse in constant rotation, or an ellipsoid with A Axis = 6,378,137m and B axis = 6,356,752.3141m.
And then to think about the people that truly believe the earth is flat!
CHEERS to Jay for at least being progressive!
To everyone else, WTF is going on with these flat earther's? We are obviously very in tune with our world, given what we do, but just HOW do some people justify their belief in a flat earth?
Well, I have tried to promote "flat earth", for gps..... (totally tongue in cheek).
When it comes to flat-earthers I have no patience. I also believe that they're just acting.
But, ever wonder why gps is based on ecef rectangular? It's not flat, it's cubic.
Flat earthers... Just flat out lied! 🙂
Flat Earth implies there are no bumps, but there are.
We try to flatten them, but no single equation really helps with that.
So, just stake out the survey and wait for the bulldozers to flatten it some more.

We found a cure for polio. You'd think we'd have found the edge of a flat earth by now. I avoid the anxiety by staying close to home.
Are any of you seeing this meme campaign to proclaim surveyors believe the earth is flat? I know this whole flat earth thing makes you chuckle and shake your head, but what if this guy on this meme worked for you? There's loads of this "surveyors know the earth is flat" stuff circulating out there but this one is the most recent one I've seen dated 7/12/17. Did you know we surveyors are all Masonic mathimigicians conspiring to hide the flat earth by all agreeing to create the fake globe by deception using geodesy working for the Jesuits? I know guys, the cats out of the bag and these flatearthers are on to our secret! 🙂
Sad thing is people actually do believe that about surveyors.
Even if my graffiti was not accepted it was appreciated enough to be posted.
Cheers Tim.
FE admit to mountains. But have no reply to the elavation of Everest, or how to measure it.
Everest was observed from 100 miles away. The measurements were combined with curvature (Clark 1866). So if it's FE then the elevation of Everest is wrong. But FE has no comment, and yet don't cite its elevation as incorrect.
