What is a DO? Original Texas Land Survey of Lavaca County

I have some descriptions that call for a "DO" with various marks blazed. I know it is a tree, but not sure what kind.

This is in Lavaca County. I have made it a hobby to go around my house and find any original corners I can, I am hoping to find some of these "DO" trees soon.

The word "DO" also means ditto. So if it used in a list after the first one is called out, then it means it is the same as the one above it.
