G'day all,
We are using the Leica Viva and Nova instruments in our office. With some pushing and cajoling I have slowly converted our field staff to use the Traverse app...however there is still some reluctance, I think mainly because we can't see all the usual information easily (particularly reduced bearings and horizontal distances). Currently after the foresights are observed I go into COGO and comp the bearing and distances using point to point.
My questions are: Is there an easier way to access this information both in the field and office?
Are there any good instruction manuals for "Traverse" available?
Thanks in advance
anthony

If you go on Leica MyWorld site you'll find the manuals under your product information. The manual does a good job of explaining this app. If you have trouble locating it feel free to email me at sales@transitandlevel.com and I'll shoot it over to you.

Antlegg,

The Traverse application is easy to use once you see it complete once. It also has some really good information displayed about the observations. I am not sure what the “usual” information displayed is when comparing between the different field softwares on the market. The application will allow you to turn manually or automatic (if you have a motorized model), you can use different prisms at the back sight and foresight, and the user is provided with several ways to look at the quality of the multiple observations once the sets have been turned. The average horizontal distance is displayed for the combined observations and can be viewed with the calculated spread or standard deviation for the final horizontal distance measured (toggle this by selecting the F5 (MORE) key) or you can even look at this for the distances measured in each individual set if you would like to view that by select the F3 (SETS). So, the averaged horizontal distance is shown and each horizontal distance for each individual set is shown.

The bearing is not displayed in the traverse. If you are using the bearing as a quick check for keeping yourself going on a general bearing towards a targeted location… property corner or towards ending control… you can look at the map view for a quick graphical estimation or just assign the COGO – Inverse PT to PT. When you are viewing the inverse the system should default to the last two measured points which would be the instrument position and foresight. Assigning the Inverse function to a hot key may help speed up getting the bearing calculated while you are viewing the measurement results while inside Traverse instead of getting out of Traverse and the navigating to the COGO menu manually.

There is a video for the Viva Traverse application on You Tube at:

I think I may be misunderstanding why you want the bearing displayed unless maybe you are keeping the bearings in field notes or in a sketch in the field not

G'day Mark,
Thanks for the info. I do enjoy using traverse app as it gives an accurate result very quickly.

When we are doing title relocation surveys we require the bearing in the field....so I am resorting to an inverse hotkey as you mentioned.
I am currently making my way through the Leica manuals to pick up some more hints and understanding of the various apps and possible new tricks on the Leica.

Cheers
ant
