Happy New Year all,
I have a contact with a small nearby town that wants me to map their utility appurtances such as manholes catchbasins, stop signs, light poles, power poles (in the R/W) valves and hydrants.
All told its about 6000 points for everything. GPS can be used for about everything if it's before leaf out in May. The town is small in size, only about 5 square miles. We have a year to complete the work.
The contact is looking for a cost per point and a hourly rate for anything else they want located later on like covered manholes and valves.
I was going to multiply the points time a cost and then add in a hourly cost for prosessing, mapping, overhead and a contingency for work after the leaves popout which would require alot of robot work.
Anyone have any other estimating methods for a simiar project? Do you see any major flaws in my process?
Thanks
Bob
By costs do you mean your billable rate or have you forgotten to add in profit?
Your right Steve. I did forget to include profit in the original post. I was involved in a similar project in 2002 and the price per point back then was $5/per point for around 17,000 points.
For the optional items that might pop up either during the project or come as a add on once the contact sees what I deliver, I was just going to use my hourly rates which has profit built in. The contact did say there might be a possibility he would want to keep the contract ongoing and just have me come back and locate other items such as stop or street signs. The deliverable would be the same.
I talked with the County to see what information they could add like LIDAR contours, topo data. I would of course indicate the source of this information on the map.
