Hi,

What is the differences between a .t01 a .t00 .t02 and a .dat file for trimble GPS? Are there advantages or disadvantages to either? Can TBC or TGO process either? Well, we know about TGO.

Thanks,

The .t** files are the actual raw files from the receiver. The .dat file is the raw file Trimble Data Transfer creates/converts when it downloads the file from the receiver.

Can't say I have ever seen .T00 or .T02 but that could be specific to equipment. When doing a static observation, two files are created .dat and .T01 and that again maybe based on your equipment. If your using GNSS then you will have both these files. A .dat file stores GPS data and .T01 stores GNSS data. These files, either one, can be imported into TBC for post-processing.

The .T01 files are created by GPS only receivers such as the 5700 and 5800 receivers. I don't remember what the raw files are in the 4000 series. They may be mixed between .T00 and .T01. The .T02 files are created by the GNSS receivers like the R8-2 and R7 GNSS receivers. .dat files are created by Trimble Data Transfer or Survey Controller if you log the static data to the controller.

What I have found is that when I would use the Trimble Data Transfer from our older receivers, it would grab the .T0* and the .job file and create a DAT file that is imported into TGO or TBC. The newer receivers that download directly without data transfer, you have to grab the individual files (.T0* and .job) and import them together into TBC.

The differences between t0* formats and .dat format are the different level of data compression. I believe t01 format is for double frequency data and t02 for single frequency data but i am not sure.
You can translate from t0* data format to dat format using the utility runpkr00.exe from trimble. See these page: http://facility.unavco.org/kb/questions/744/Trimble+runpkr00+v5.40+Latest+Version+(Mac+OSX+10.7%2C+Windows+XP+-%3E+7%2C+linux%2C+Solaris)
