Hello Everyone,

Been fighting with an issue and hoping someone out there can provide some insight.

I will spare everyone the long story of the fight with Trimble so here is the short version. I have, or rather had, a Trimble 5603 with an ACU controller running Survey Controller 11.4. Everything was great until the ACU stop booting. Service rep said they found a small loose screw in the unit and it apparently shorted out the ACU. Trimble stopped supplying parts so the ACU has now graduated to being the door stop. Here is where the back and forth started with Trimble amounting to a big waste of time and energy.

So the issue now is that I have a TSCe with Survey Controller 11.22 that I am trying to use with the 5603. Old stuff, I know, but when life gives you lemons you do your best to keep things going. The problem that is occurring is that the TSCe and the 5603 will not talk. I have tried multiple configurations and settings and still no joy.

I am thinking it may be rooted in the radio settings. I have tried every channel on the controller via the geo radio with no success. I cannot verify the settings on the instrument as I do not have a CU face for the gun as that was the purpose of the ACU. So does anyone know how I can get the TSCe to connect directly with the gun via a cable? I have tried multiple configurations but still cannot seem to get them to talk.

Thanks for any feedback you can offer.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

I would think that aligning firmware versions would also be important. Good luck!

I can help you with plugging the cable directly into the gun. But first, I'd need to know what type of batter you are using at the gun. Do you have the "3-pack" battery, or are you using a gel-cell "motorcycle" battery pack?

From what I recall of the 5601 (Direct Connect), the first step to getting it to communicate robotically is to establish a cable connection. From there, you do a "send settings to instrument" and "Go Remote" ... it's been a while. But after you send your DC's setting to the instrument through the cable, you should be able to fire it up robotically without making the cable connection first.

As a fellow frustrated Trimble user, my 5603 is a tad bit fiesty sometimes. Then the batteries want to puke. I took care of that with a cable I think, but lately have had tracking problems.

Don't know about the ACU, but my TSC2 needs re-booting once in a while. Especially if I go back and forth from GPS to robot. Just another Trimble "grrrrr" that makes me want to sell it all before I throw it in a lake.

My guess is firmware on both the robot and the data collector. The TSCe is old and around before the 5600 ever came out (I think), so I wonder about the backwards compatibility part of the hookups. That is one of Trimble's favorite tricks - no more service. You could be hosed here with that vendor, so try another one that isn't so inclined to just want to sell you new stuff.
