Hello all,

This is my first post here on this forum; it looks to be a useful resource.

I am a GTA at UND, and our civil department just purchased Topcon GR-5 base/rover set + tesla + magnet enterprise.
I took the receivers and teslas out for a test run, but had a few issues.
While I had no problem connecting to the base and setting up the base point, my Rover was not working properly. I had no problem connecting to the GR-5 Rover, but I couldn't shoot any more points with it. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the receiver. I have only scanned the operations manuals, but if someone is here and knows, how do I put the Rover in data collection mode?
Much appreciated,
Spencer

Did you or your dealer do the registration of the Tesla and Magnet software?

I recently got a Tesla and the very first step required was an online activation.

Yeah, so before anything I need to activate the GPS+ software. I'm quite sure that's it. I'll check back here tomorrow with an update.
cheers

I suspect that this may have more to do with the radio settings than the Magnet software registration.

Your recommended radio parameters are "generic serial", 115200 baud, radio port is C in the receiver profiles in Magnet.

You should download and install TRU (Topcon Receiver Utility) both on your PC and on the Tesla.

Your radio parameters as viewed in the TRU Modem Managing Mode also needs to have the following settings:
General
Baud Rate: 115,200
Flow Control: None

Under Radio Settings,
there is the Frequency setting
Protocol: PDL Receiver (for Rover) or PDL Transmitter (for Base)
Modulation: 4FSK
Spacing, KHz: 12.5
Power, mW: 1,000

Those are the main ones. None of them are set correctly from Topcon. If this has not been done on your system, that would explain your difficulties.

I installed the GPS+ software necessary to configure the GR-5 receivers. Once connected to the software, I decided to take them out for another test run. I had no trouble connecting each receiver to the TESLA via Bluetooth. Once I had my base point established (no problems), I tried using the rover. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to shoot any more points. I think it may have something to do with the reciever not in DATA RECORDING MODE. The manual was very confusing at this point.

Could anyone please explain how the FUNCTION button works ont he GR-5 receivers? (most importantly on a rover).
thanks
