While I'm sitting here waiting for the Carlson tech to return a call I thought I'd pose this question to any folks that may be using a QS and running SurvCe on it.
I picked up a used station a few weeks ago and just received a shiny new Carlson Mini 2 (Archer 2) and am attempting to pair it with the QS via an RC-4R controller. I have gotten it to pair up and work, but, often as not, the comms will break and not want to re-connect or it will simply not work at all. Especially if I pack it off to a site and try and use it.
Juniper has a library full of patches and hacks regarding Bluetooth and other connectivity issues; Some of which I've tried with little success. This morning a did a clean boot back to factory setting and figured I'd call Carlson and have a go at it again.
So, again, I would appreciate if anyone has figured this conundrum out yet with SurCE 4.0 running in any one of Juniper's new units ( Archer 2, Allegro2, Mesa)? I assume they are all running similar Windows mobile OS.
Thanks, Bob
Bob,
I think they are the same settings as my Surveyor 2:
Comms:
Type-Bluetooth
BT Type Windows Mobile (click on the tools, scan and find the RC4, and select that)
Device: RC-4R xxxxxxxx
Settings and the rest of the tabs are your preference.
I did have a bit of an issue trying to set it up the first time, and I called Carlson, the guy walked me right through pairing the QS, a reflectorless, my Javad T1Ms and also setting up the internal GPS.
I'm not saying this is the problem but when having connection issues with a TSC3 and other Bluetooth devices like a Trimble M3, a reboot of the collector does wonders. It seems if you don't follow the proper protocol when ending a survey and breaking the connection, it won't reconnect at times.
There are a host of problems with topcon playing nice with carlson, and I would say topcon is more to blame. Just watch out for the prism constant that will randomly change on you! Classic!
Thanks Toivo, the only options I have on the DC are 'RC only(cable)' and 'RC only(bluetooth)' . I did get it back up operating again only to have the same break occur. I will try Carlson support again. I guess I've gotten spoiled with an older Leica 1200 where proper protocols weren't that important. Maybe Topcon has a firmware update that might alleviate this issue...
I am running SurvCe 4.06xx
I would think that the setup screen would have the same options that I have, strange you have the different ones.
5.0 just came out. Like all software, I am waiting for the first patch before I upgrade. You may look at making sure you are fully current on 4 though if you don't want to go to 5 yet.
I did just upgrade last summer and I run 4.07 on the collector. In the 'Topcon direct' selection, Bluetooth does appear, and I assume it's there when you want to use the QS as a conventional station ie. working reflectorless measurements. The reflectorless/prism toggle also only shows up in the Topcon direct mode
I was using it successfully yesterday, and I'm sure I'll adjust to the quirky operation in time.
