Thirteen year old robot quit on me yesterday. I started tinkering with it this morning in the yard. From the keypad on the instrument, it would read a distance in coarse mode but not fine mode. No error codes. 20 minutes later it would not read a distance at all.
This instrument gets used very little since we went to GPS in 2008. Right now I'm in the middle of a State Park with too many trees for GPS.
Just looking for opinions on whether it's worth fixing.
If I had my choice I would get a Trimble robot so I don't have to use two different data collectors but it's not my money. I will have to convince my boss.

on monday i can have someone look up the slip. they fixed our old topcon robot a couple years ago. still works just fine...
Thanks for the offer spledeus but it's really not about how much it cost this time. It's more about how many more times it will have to be fixed in the next 5 - 10 years.
I know a K&E transit will last a 100 years if properly taken care of. I know a robot will not. I'm just trying to figure out what a reasonable lifespan of a robot is and if I'm done past that.

Troy was the last person to service this robot. That was 3 1/2 years ago.
