Got a call from a realtor this morning, with a husband and wife from out of town and looking to buy a lot in the foothills. They wanted a land surveyor to walk the lot with them and help answer any questions, on an hourly basis. Now there was a surprise. Very nice couple, and sharp. They knew the questions to ask, and he spotted two lot monuments as we walked. They have made an offer and if it is accepted, I'm to survey the lot. It is a nice one, spectacular views of the mountains.

That is the way it ought to be. Like the concept quite a bit. It would be interesting to know how your clients knew to ask for that, i.e. where they were from and what experiences, good or bad, they had had.

great example of how things should be done, Bruce. I was just thinking of writing an article for the local paper on the importance of the order that things are done. I've been scratching my bald head at a few recent events.. 1) Home builder has house designed and sited on a lot BEFORE asking for the survey. Designer didn't take the 20' setback of the lake into account! 2) Buyer ignores my advice, hires out of town surveyor that somehow (RTK in Pine trees) determines the elevation of the lot to be about 6 FEET higher than it actually is.

But I agree, you do come across some jewels on occasion.
