We have had two crews surveying since Monday at LAX in front of four of the terminals. They will be there for about another 3-4 weeks.
On the lower (arrivals)level, they are surveying anything that doesn't move from the face of the terminal clear across the sidewalk, pick-up roadway, median and upper level supporting columns, and circulation roadway to the face of the parking structure across the roadway...AND...the bottom of the lower surface of the upper level.
On the upper (departures) level, they are surveying anything that doesn't move from the face of the terminal clear across the sidewalk, off-loading roadway, median, overhang and overhang supporting columns, and circulation roadway, and retaining wall to the dropoff below....and the planter hanging over the edge!
That's locating all lights, signs, windows, doors, fire sprinklers, wheelchair ramps, soffits, planters, overhead planters, columns, anything hanging on the walls and colums, on-and-on and etc. as well all roadway features.
All during some of the busiest days at one of the busiest airports in the United States. There are people, cars, busses, vans, luggage carts, security people, and cops everywhere...all getting in the way!!!!
THIS IS A HIGH STRESS JOB FOR THE FIELD CREWS!!!!!!
Oh yeah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Yes, Merry Christmas.
This sounds like a job for a scanner. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

I'll look for them when I fly in at the end of January...koozies in hand!! 🙂
How many times during the day to they asked the question "Are you taking my picture"?
Who was the genius that decided this would be a good time to schedule this project??
Talk about clueless, this will be a cakewalk in three weeks.
Yes, a scanner seems at first to be a possible solution...but for all those people, cars, trucks, busses, and vans, etc.
