I had made some comments about [msg=220421]switching from a Silva to a Suunto base plate compass[/msg] here and the quality of the NEW Silva's. Well, my less than two year old Suunto MC-2G compass developed an air bubble making it useless, so I called Suunto and was very pleased with the support, new one in the mail, don't even need to send the old one back! Hopefully this was an isolated incident and the new one will last a good long while...

Thanks Edward, will keep the invite in mind! I am home for a couple weeks, another driver was lamenting this morning that going to upstate NY may not be the best idea this time of year, I was scheduled to take that run, BUT instead I am home for the holidays catching up on survey office work! Good place to be...

I have used the Suunto Self-Damping Clinometer PM-5 type for years, but like the base plate style of compass better than the companion KB14 style of compass. Mostly just wanted to point out that even though I had a failure in my Suunto compass, the after sale support couldn't have been less painless, that is worth a lot to me with any product.
