Embarrassing SHS Rendezvous Trivia
When we were putting up the hoist tripod to reset the new Mason Dixon crownstone, none of the half dozen surveyors present were spry enough to shinny up to the top and tighten the lashing, so an engineer had to do it.
Embarrassing SHS Rendezvous Trivia
Should have built it upside down in the first place.
Embarrassing SHS Rendezvous Trivia
> Should have built it upside down in the first place.
That seems like the kind of thing an engineer should have thought of.
A Poem
SHS
by Johnny Ingram
The Surveyor’s Historical Society, a link to the past;
by studying boundaries, we help make them last.
The methods and equipment, from times of old;
keep knowledge fresh and memories from growing cold.
The subject of our study, is boundaries - as they are today;
the lines we choose, came to be, - each - in their own way.
At least once each year, we choose to meet somewhere;
to study old boundaries and set markers with care.
The boundaries chosen, for this kind of attention;
are from the past and deserve, a specific mention.
The persons who meet, for this special endeavor;
do it for meaning and not just gather.
Each person has an agenda and as a common goal;
to “walk in the footsteps of an original surveyor”, is our role.
Whether you dress, of the period, or come as you are;
when you are here, you help raise the bar.
If we fail to remember, the history of our past;
of this - we can be sure, our future will not last.
So we invite you, be a living history buff;
join SHS to study boundaries, surveying history and stuff.
