Pot gardens that is.
Google Earth imagery shows the neighbor has 3 large areas that look like apple orchards from last summer's imagery. Except those aren't apple trees.
2 of those gardens are on the 40 acres of our client owns.
Went out there yesterday and I've never seen so many no trespassing signs.
Haven't met the neighbor yet, but I've got to cut right through his place today to tie in a 1/4 corner.
My client, from out of the area, had been to the property a couple of months back after he had inherited it. He said he met the neighbor and he seemed friendly.
Hope so. At least hope he is just a stoner and is nice and mellowed. Although with the size of crop he grew, he certainly wasn't doing it just for the buzz.
As a side note, California has a medical merrywanna law that really started being abused a few years back when "here comes the prez" stated he wasn't interested in pursuing pot smokers at the federal level. The CA stoners decided that meant they could do what ever they want and started opening up distribution centers under the guise of collectives. Major grows immediately followed completely out in the open with no intent of being hidden from the air as was in the past. Guys today are using optimum spacing and growing huge plants, 10, 12' and taller.
If you look at most any neighborhood in CA using the 2012 google earth imagery you will see what looks like apple orchards with very dark coloured trees. Those dark green trees likely aren't apple trees. Rural areas, suburban, you name it, it is there. Big time.
Only thing good about today's job is that it is winter and there's nothing being grown right now, at least not outside.

Colorado also. Do you think there is any correlation between that and those two states struggling economies?
We were surveying a mountain top repeater and look out site the Department owns when we spotted a pretty obvious grove the neighbor isn't even trying to hide. You can see it from the shared dirt road which goes up there.
Humboldt County is worried it will be legalized and destroy the local economy because then no one will need to grow in that County, they will just grow it openly in the Central Valley.
At least if they are that open about
growing, it might actually be safer to survey in the area.
I have heard that some the crops around here are booby trapped as you approach with fish hooks hanging at head height and other worse things.
At least if they are that open about
The Park Ranger at Salt Point State Park (Sonoma County) told us he found booby trapped grows (shotgun). He also found a shotgun shell left on the driver side windshield wiper of his patrol truck after coming back from a patrol hike in the woods.
Learned that just because it isn't grow season doesn't mean these little pukes aren't still on edge. Turns out they grew so much weed they've got literaly a ton of it stored on site plus have a winter garden going under lights for cloning for next year's crop.
Little tweekers it turned out. At least they're smart enough to understand I'm just surveying. Pretty much left me alone. The neighbors on the other side didn't even come out of the house even though I was chainsawing a path right next to it. I'm guessing after I told one what I was doing, they got the word around and everyone left me alone.
Found cameras all over the place and the no trespassing, beware of dog other signs were everywhere.
Used to never mind the hippy growers. But now with the mexican cartel growers and the current local tweekers, I'm not so keen on this biz.
