It used to be that a surveyor would buy a transit, or a theodolite. It is still valuable, after 25, or 65 yrs.

Now, you buy gnss equipment, and it goes "out of date" in a few years. Long life is 10 yrs.

Our equipment is becoming a consumable product. Batteries go bad, and equipment goes obsolete, faster than ever.?ÿ

Digital auto levels. Communication parameters.

Our main equipment is becoming like car batteries, brake shoes etc.?ÿ

Buy new, or get left behind.

New gear.... It's clicking faster than ever.

I like the Javad LS... It gets new software about 4-6 times a year.

This seems to be an exception, but nearly all mfr's make you buy new hardware.

Staying current is going to get harder, if this trend continues.

Drones are moving very fast. Go out of date pretty fast.

Makes me long for a lone Pacific island, with out electricity. Sea breeze, and fish, and a small garden.

Just had this conversation with another surveyor regarding Lidar systems. Better to be ready to spend a million bucks every 5 years or donƒ??t play the game.
