Well, from the surveyor's pointof view, one good thing comes out of the article:

"A certified surveyor can cost thousands of dollars...."

At least they're not telling people a survey will cost $150.

There have been a series of flood events in Columbia County (specifically, the town of Vernonia)in recent years. Raising houses up 6 feet or so and building a foundation under them is a booming business out there. FEMA didn't just pick this place out of a hat.

FYI - Columbia County is northwest of Portland, Salem is to the south, in Marion County. I'm not sure why a story about Columbia County is bylined "Salem".

Hopefully the people will realize that this isn't the surveyors faults and not blame our surveyors for the flood plain change.
