This is fun how this evolved. Back in the Mark Deal RPLS.com days I put together a post about some old (1905) rotten original wood lot stakes we found on a project ("sticks") and some original GLO monuments we found on another project ("and stones"). The "sticks" portion turned into a presentation for our local chapter and recently, at the strong armed urging of a fellow surveyor, I wrote an article for our organization's publication, The Oregon Surveyor.

I was hesitant to do so, but he leaned on me for the sake of up and coming surveyors who might not be aware of the fact that they should be searching for these non-ferrous monuments in old neighborhoods. The article starts on page 9.

There is another real good article on page 23 about the drafting/artwork of the late Leroy Daley in Hood River, Oregon.?ÿ ?ÿ

Dang, Mike, we've missed your almost daily input this past year.?ÿ Glad to see you posting again.

I agree that it important to alert the next generation of surveyors to the possibilities that exist if you only look hard enough for them.

@holy-cow - Indeed Cow. Especially since so many folks work solo in the field these days. With 2 and 3 man crews ?ÿin my formative years I had someone with beau coup experience to open my eyes to the little nuances that can make all the difference in the world.

There is another real good article on page 23 about the drafting/artwork of the late Leroy Daley in Hood River, Oregon

I failed to mention that the "artwork" drafting article also has a link to more surveys Daley drafted for county surveyor Danny Cron:

https://www.plso.org/Sept_OctTOS-Bonus-Material/?ÿ (under the caption Daley's Early Work for Cron)

Daley's north arrows definitely would have short circuited the sensibilities of some of the more fragile surveyors that used to practice in Austin Texas and environs!
