And Another Manufacturer May Use Diferent Steel Than Lufkin

It is reasonable for a manufacturer to pick one steel and stick to it for all their regular tapes. Their Invar tape is different.

What bunch of great info!
I'm capturing it and putting it into a file on my PC.
I guess you really can lay it flat with no problem as long as you are reasonable about tension.

The only other thing I can think might be a problem, especially in warm climates,
is laying it on hot pavement during Summer.
Then you might have really excessive expansion.
Have to carry an oven thermometer!

0.01' change w/ each 20° F of temperature change above or below 60° F

cut 0.01' at 80°, 0.02' at 100°

add 0.01 at 40° F, 0.02 at 20° F

at least that's the way i remember it on the little wooden ruler thing that came w/ the chain

Dangit man, why did you have to post that picture??? 😛 I love collecting this type of stuff.:-D

Now I am going to want one for my display shelf. Gonna have to comb ebay for one.

If anyone has an extra one laying around that would not mind parting with shoot me an email. I might be interested if the price is right.

Thanks,
Jimmy

I recall I had one in my old work briefcase, I'll look for it tomorrow. Email me your address in case I find it.
