There was some question a while back about closing corners, this is what I do:
Found the closing corner between 4 and 3, the stone was broken but the base is still in the ground, no clear markings, but it is the original. It is about 30' south of the standard line, so I take the remains of the stone, and mark the main body of the stone with AM, bury it in place with a spike at the position I determine is the center of the stone to help recover it. Then extending the line between 3 and 4 I set a new monument at the intersection of the section line and the standard line. Its important to document the original position, it needs to be used to prorate section breakdown lines to the south.
Had the stone been intact I would have buried it in place with an x scratched on top and AM'd it.
Of course it needs to be placed on the curve........;-)

well done. I am glad someone understands what a closing corner is.
I usually don't add marks to the original. Adding marks to an original monument (even a CC) is not a good idea; or at least that is what my mentors taught me.
I agree for the most part, I don't paint or use markers, but when it's time to set the new closing corner that's one time to AM the old one.
Unless it's accepted...;-)
I can see stamping "AM" on the new monument and burying the original. Thereby letting everyone know the closing corner position has been amended. Or leave the original in place or remonument it and give a falling to the true point. I have seen pretty much all three
