The stone is the monument and the earth mound is the accessory.
It is a west quarter corner stubbed out from the NW section corner.
I don't believe this a rock pile from a field, it's all pasture around this area.
Scratching my head why they wouldn't have piled up a stone mound, they did for other corners in the area.

Fairly good sized rock. Is it scribed?
I wish it was big, 14"x10"x6" in mound of earth. So far nothing besides a 100 or so that fit the desc,,,,no markings.
I thought you were saying that big honking rock was the corner.
Reminded me of a US Survey corner in St. Charles County. Surveyors had been setting various pipes where they couldnt find the 'x on rock marked 2 on north face'.
The '2' was at eye level. The 'x' was on top of the rock, which happened to be over 6 foot tall. Nobody ever looked up...
What are the topic calls leading up to and away from the corner you seek. Those calls are equally as important.?ÿ

The big ones are rare.
I've never not found one of the stones where the size is noted as ft. instead of in.
But alas this one isn't one of them, still can't see why they didn't mound up a stone pile there they used them nearby frequently.

Fast Eddie was moving along, usually his topo calls were 20.00 chs top of ridge or some even call to a flowline, this wasn't any different, he did call out a ravine about 20 chains to the south and a ridge 20 chains to the north, they aren't hitting line anywhere near square so the position can slide north and south really fast using them depending where you might cross. His topo calls work great where he is close to the corner and notes a hundredth in the call. Crossing a ravine south of a section corner at 78.55 chains then recrossing it heading east at 0.87 chains,?ÿat that poing you know you have something with him, but usually it was some even call at 10, 20, 60 chains. Heck there are whole townships in the area without a single topo call.
