Afternoon Everyone,

Anyone buy batteries from Sabah Oceanic.com? I need to replace my Leica GEB221 battery for my Leica 1205 and the dealer wants $180 a peice, but this place is selling their GEB221 for $85 plus shipping.

I've seen their ads in a couple of our mags and am just looking for some feedback.

Thanks

Bob

Well it uses a generic charger and you can't use Leica's so I'd say there is a pretty good chance that the TPS won't show the correct percentage of battery life remaining either. But the $180 lith-ion battery that probably costs Leica $5 is just another reason the nickel and dimming doesn't really foster any good will with me.

If there's a Batteries+ near you they can re-cell them for about $30. They have done a great job on everything I've ever had them fix.

The sad thing is if you pop open most instrument batteries, they are a bunch of AAs soldered into a series.

FWIW we used the Duracell DC10 batteries in our old Leica TPS300 series and they worked perfectly.

I found this without too much searching: Duracell

So it looks like you could find the higher capacity batteries as well.

An old Leica dealer told me that Leica didn't think it was best to try to get rich off of batteries, and that's why they use ones that are easily replaced by camcorder batteries.

The 1100 series instruments could take a camcorder battery which would last for days.

Leica fixed that with the 1200 series hee hee hee. No more buying cheap longer lasting camcorder batteries from the Good Guys bru-hahahahahahaha.

Hi guys,

I stopped at Batteries Plus awhile back to see if they could recell the GEB221 and they could not. They used to recell all of my Topcon batteries before I went solo robotics with the 1205.

I just got back from Batteries Plus and they are able to order a GEB221 for me for $130 and it will have 4.8 Ah instead of the 3.8Ah the cirrent batteries have which should give me a little more juice and hopefully some extra shots at the end of the day.

So I'm getting a little stronger battery and saving about $50 per battery and I pick it up Wednesday and it has a 12 month warranty.

Thanks for the responses

Bob
