A property owner called me yesterday pricing a "pin" for a 1 and 1/4 acre tract.
I looked it up while I had him on the phone: It was an "aliquot" description east half of the sw/4 of the se/4 of the sw/4 of the se/4...blah blah. I have worked there before. The property I previously surveyed was in the same 40 (quarter of a quarter), but the properties didn't adjoin. He was specifically interested in his 'rear' property line. I did notice that line was common with a recently platted development.
I quoted him a price and he said he'd get back with me. Cool.
Last night on the way in I get another phone call from a lady wanting her property "pinned". She had property in a recently platted development I've worked in before. Everything there fits good so I gave her my three hour minimum blather. She said she'd get back to me.
Guess what? The first owner calls me back today. These two phone calls were from adjoiners. They apparently agreed to have their common line surveyed and split the costs. Neither one knew who the other was going to call.
They got together today and talked. They quickly realized they had talked to the same surveyor...but..one price was more than twice what the other was. This guy was upset that I had quoted him more.
I explained that a platted area was a little different than his property and required a little more work. In my defense, they actually only share about 90 feet of common line. He wanted me to lower my quote for him. He got no satisfaction by the end of the call.
I think if the lady calls back, I'll decline.
I wish some people would be a little more informative when they call.
ok - rant off.
