I can tell you that I had a lot of problems trying to run Carlson Field software on a Leica data collector. It was prone to frequent hangups, failure to communicate, locked screens, and refusal to sync with the robot.?ÿ
Now this was using the Leica Viva software and I realize it has been modified and is a lot better but the Leica dealer told me that their hardware does not work well with another manufacturers software.
The Leica data collector worked flawlessly with Leica software especially if it was using a Leica robot as well.?ÿ
As for Carlson, I've been using it for a couple of decades now and have used it on an Alegre and it worked great.?ÿ

I recommend disabling and not using sleep mode for anything Captivate or Viva. Most connection and crashing issues I face are after an assistant "helps me" by saving battery with sleep mode.
Always disable unused connections.
Avoid button mashing and wait for previous input to complete before starting new input.?ÿ
