I'm not sure how Mr. Erickson is reaching the conclusion that states "are using the NCEES model law to push for the removal of the boundary experience requirement for licensure." The NCEES model law expands the definition of land surveying to include those things (construction staking, geodetic control, topographic surveys, etc.) that we already do. The NCEES exam tests our abilities to perform those tasks in addition to boundary surveying. There is nothing in it that removes the requirement for boundary experience.

Thanks for the comments.

By using your words and adding one phrase from the NCEES model law we have the answer to your question. The first step is dilution, as you outlined, and the second is the words "...any one or more..." from the model law. Lest we think this logic is faulty, Keith Simila, executive director of the Idaho survey board announced that the removal of boundary experience was one of the main selling points for the new legislation, which is based on the model law.

In the "Fox is Guarding the Hen House" article in the November 2014 issue of The American Surveyor, we only exposed the tip of the iceberg on this. There is some indication that NCEES has been considering the supplanting of the State's professional portion of the exam with a national exam, and perhaps dropping the whole professional thing and we 100% members of NSPS are supporting and funding these activities.:-(
