Seattle Company Says New System Redefines Surveying
Terrane, previously known as GeoDimensions, is a surveying company in Bellevue, Washington, claiming that they are redefining land surveying processes.

I started to reply to that thread, but, my thoughts and comments were too far "off target" (No pun intended!)

So, I made my own thread, that only brings the key words along, to explain. You see, I got the notice on my cell phone, but I could only see the picture, and the opening thread headline. So, my imagination was at work all day, with no basis in fact. When I had finally read the thread... then I saw stuff I could not relate to real well... ie, keeping on schedule!
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought finally somebody had come out with a Combo RTK GPS system. Base, and 4 rovers. That somebody had really come out with a SOLID and fast surveying system. One that fully automated the integration of Static, RTK, PPK and PPS GPS, with robot, and Star net. And, from what I read about robots, the robot is MOUNTED on a "Robot with tracks, that can travel on it's own" Same with the backsite.

Set up base, turn on radio.

One is permanently mounted in the top of a 1" Robot.
One is permanently mounted in the backsite prism assembly.
One is permanently mounted in the actual rover pole, for occupying points.
One is mounted in the SECOND rover pole, for occupying points.

This would allow a 2 man crew, to perform ALTA surveys, at a very high rate. 2 man crew.

Crew sets up base, and then sets up Robot as needed, and it has the MM accuracy game going strong. Kent Mc would be proud. Measure all to the width of a gnat's behind. (Texas, Alabama and Louisiana gnat's excluded, their behinds are too wide! ok, just kidding, Scratch that... NO NOT LITERALLY!)

Has star net integrated into the data flow. You set the accuracies desired, and various timers let you know when that is achieved.
Can topo 80 acres, Survey all improvements, of a mall, and shoot 500 boundary points in a day. Just a modern, integrated, surveying solution. With a Wild-Leica system underlying it all. You'd have to hire somebody just to run the metal detector, and shovel. Maybe even a powered digger on it's own tracks. To drill into pavement, and hard ground, and to install monument wells.
So much data generated in a day, that they can do three 20k ALTA surveys in a week. Need to hire another drafts person, or two, to keep up with the field crew.
Nope. No such luck.
It has to do with scheduling. Getting crews around faster. I don't know alot about such things. I have to load up jobs mentally, to go do them. I don't know very much about what is the actual thing here.
I have never done an ALTA survey.
Blessings on those of you who do. Go back to reality. It is not here... yet! But I am dreaming.

That all sounds wonderful. But...................

Did a job yesterday where three-fourths of the job was finding and shooting the two back corners. Any variety of GPS was out of the question to do what the client wanted done at those corners. Could see both ends of the half mile of section line on the front and set three of the four corners from a single TS setup. The final corner took two turning points. The technology part of the job was the easy part. The hard part was fighting through seemingly impenetrable "stuff" that was chest high and more that had been showered on about dawn and still had every drop of moisture available to transfer to our clothes to find the back corners. Once we knew where they were, getting there via TS turned out to be almost too simple. Finding the critical line of sight to each corner made all the difference in the world.

Knowing how to get the job done is fifty times more important than owning specific tools. How does that saying go? Something about: To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I have those days. Someone find a way to make life easier, sure, go ahead. I have corners I have to use a horse to get to. Take an RTK shot on. If there is a monument there, I do a static. Had one, that needed an iron set, the landowner was having a dozer go round the place for a fence. I figured I'd wait for the dozer to push me a path, and take an ATV to set the iron. Called the dozer guy, and he said he chickened out, he wasn't pushing across that canyon, he went around!
