To not high-jack the other Handheld GPS Mapping thread.

Does anyone know of a handheld or dashboard GPS that has an odometer feature that reads in feet and cost less than $300 ??? Most will display feet when you approach a stored point, but I want to use it like a truck odoemeter. Years ago we had feet meters in our trucks. They where so handy when looking for corners in the road. I know the GPS will not be as accurate as this, but way more accurate than the digital truck odometer and more convenient than hanging out of the truck with the wheel thingy 😀

I'd love to find one, particularly one that allows the use of user-defined two-parallel Lambert Projections. The Garmin eTrex I have is a nice little El Cheapo receiver, but a flop since it defaults to units of one-hundredth of a mile any time the distance to the point is over 0.10 mile.

I also dislike that "feature" of switching to miles too soon.

You could do it in meters. That works smoothly.

I don't suppose we could get Garmin to make a Texas version in varas? 😉
