Record of Survey - right index finger ?

Bhiker19,
I think that the time to end this discussion is when people stop posting. Personally, I don’t think that I would ever tell my peers when they should stay quiet on an issue, particularly one as important, and that raised as many issues as governmental requirements for surveyors, such as the Record of Survey. (By the way I have noticed that there is a more recent post continuing the discussion of RS’s from a certain perspective. So people are still interested in this subject.)

Even at this late date in the thread new things are coming up. For example, last night Seb wrote an interesting post. Although he seems to generally disagree with me, he did make some new points, and had quite a bit of specific information on the cost of fulfilling coordinate requirements using GPS. Basically, he favors the point of view that some regulation, such as the one that in his area requires that surveys be defined by coordinates, is beneficial to the clients who contract for the surveys, and can be done at very low cost.

PS. I did chuckle over your musings on index fingers and archeologists

You're right Lewis ! The discussion ends when there are no more posts.

Think I was just not wanting to see anymore flaming toward you, to tell you the truth.

Record of Survey - right index finger ?

Absolutely right.
There should be no more flaming against someone who states that it takes $1000 to locate a deed split, but then complains that it takes another $5000 to correct his survey's shortcomings when the County Surveyor calls him out.
Nor should there be any more flaming towards anyone who makes statements advocating keeping surveys out of the public record in the interest of protecting a survey business' self serving financial interests.
And by no means should there be any more flaming against anyone who, in a condescending tone, repeatedly tells the CEA of BPELSG that "I’m not sure that you have really thought this out" in regards to the importance of recording a properly conducted survey. Although, I must admit it is very tempting to produce a corollary analogy to the intelligence level of those who choose to poke a bear with a stick. However, I will refrain in the interest of subduing further flames.

Record of Survey - what the Burpels ?

CA Burpels makes their share of mistakes like everyone else; those mistakes are just one of the items they address when they go behind the curtain for their non-public sessions..to discuss fires they have lit and the need for damage control with their co-employee state defense attorneys.

I think they are also well-intentioned; despite occasionally having been trigger happy at the expense of licensed land surveyors at times. You see, no system is perfect.

These are my observations from some of the cases I have been privileged to review.

Record of Survey - what the Burpels ?

> CA Burpels

The initialization has changed a number of times over the years, but I don't think it's ever been BURPELS. BPELSG is the current iteration, reflecting the addition of geologists to the purview.

RS - what the Burpels ?

That particular spelling was my try at poking fun at the comment by clearcut just two posts earlier.
