Can we lay to rest the idea that the minimum wage was not meant to be a living wage?
I started at $4.50 an hour. That??s roughly $12.50 in todays dollars based on the official rate of inflation. But this is misleading. We lived in an apartment and had a car on that. It would be impossible to do that today on 12.50 alone, at least here. $25 is pretty much the bare minimum to survive, if jobs pay less than that then more incomes are required.
I can understand why young people feel they have been given a raw deal.
