So how far is short?
As in a deed description. I have one here that says "thence from the right of way of the Road in a Westerly direction a short distance". That is the entire description and is supposed to be describing an abandoned right of way.
I'm having a tough time explaining to the fellow who called me that we may have quite a little project on our hands. An expensive one at that.
Without something extrinsic I would probably conclude that is unlocatable...
Is this an old ROW abandoned because it is no longer needed because of a realignment? If so, you have the intent, which would make it a good description which you could locate on the ground by using the new C/L and ROW data.

It is shown on the record plat as a proposed street and is a strip between two subdivisions circa 1954, sort of a little stub road. I don't think it was ever built, there certainly is no paving or curb. No dimensions are given and the lines on the plat seem to show two different widths as if it starts out a 50' r/w and then changes to a 40' at an angle point. It has been used as a drive and is the only access to my guy's lot. He got it in fee out of an estate and wants the lines marked. Sounds like a "get off my driveway" war is brewing.
Sounds like you will be able to locate the strip intended to be held in fee, Now was title there to pass or other rights involved, don't know, you are right to anticipate the need to CYA. Good luck.
