I have been asked to do 2 radio tower surveys in my area.

I have never done one before and the client is sending the FAA standards which I need to adhere to.

I do not know if I even want this work, but it might be simple stuff.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Randy

Download several others, already completed, for examples. Just looking at the plat, will help you wrap your mind around what others did, and how they interpreted the specs.

They probably meant FAA 2C letter/certification which mean the horiz accuracy is 50, and vert. is 20'. But that's only for the location of the tower and top of the tower because it's so tall. They're just concerned about planes and such.

This [msg=156409]thread[/msg] had a nice FAA link in it.

The are not complicated but come in several flavors. It could be a cell tower lease site (100 feet tall) to a 1000' radio mast. If it is not near an airport you will need an fcc2c which any gps will give an adequate lat/long and a vertical angle for height. If it is for a lease site you will need to do a boundary and write legals for the site, access and util esmt, and if needed guy wire easement. For new construction they may want you to stake north. Then they may just need an asbuilt survey. Send more info and I can send you some old example surveys.

Robert,

They need a 1A survey showing location and height.

If you have an example I would appreciate it.

Email is current in profile.

Thanks,

Randy

If you just need a 1a cert. I can send you some wording tomorrow. I used to do so many of these I had them setup in a form letter attached to an access database.

Randy,

This is pretty basic but I never had one come back asking for more info. If you need a 1A just change teh 50' to 20' and the 20' to 3'

HORIZONTAL VERTICAL
Code Tolerance Code Tolerance
1 +20 ft (6 m) A +3 ft (1 m)
2 +50 ft (15 m) B +10 ft (3 m)
3 +100 ft (30 m) C +20 ft (6 m)
4 +250 ft (75 m) D +50 ft (15 m)
5 +500 ft (150 m) E +125 ft (38 m)
6 +1,000 ft (300 m) F +250 ft (75 m)
7 +1/2 NM (900 m) G +500 ft (150 m)

I love doing them. They're easy. I never have to do anything to FAA standards. I simply write a letter and prepare a sketch of the tower, the direction of the tower legs, and the proposed direction of the antenna.

Good money for little work

minor correction-vertical datum

check your vertical datum. there exists no NGVD 88, only NGVD 29. you should be using NAVD 88, more appropriately. my two angstroms, have a great day.
