We are using R8's and are having some difficulties losing radio on a project we are on and have found that removing the rubber duck antenna and attaching an antenna similar to what is on the base and holding it up helps immensely. I saw some highway dept guys surveying a while back and they had these little brackets that appeared to be sandwhiched between the rover rod and receiver and were a few inches long and a whip antenna was mounted on it. I assume it just had a 5/8" stud. Does anyone know where one can buy these? I know it wouldn't be hard to make but I am in the field now in another state and have limited resources here.

Back in 2002-2004, I was using a Trimble 5700, I believe, with a small whip type antenna with a cable. My dad took a small piece of angle iron, and drilled a 5/8" hole in one side to slip over the prism rod, and the other side was drilled to match the antenna size.

This raised the antenna to help increase range, and it helped a lot. I doubt he had more than about 10 or 15 minutes in it, but he had a full auto shop at his disposal also. I don't have any pictures.

That sounds like what I am looking for. If I was home in my shop I could make one in no time but no luck here. I was hoping something like that may be for sell somewhere. We raised our base antenna to 30' and it is helping a lot but the whips on the rover still seem to be much better than the rubber antenna.

Thanks Corey and End of the Road. Both the clamp on and bolt on one are what I am looking for. The one you pictured is likely what the highway guys had.
