New here, Well I thought I signed up here years ago when this site first started up after the rpls boards made all of the changes and lots of us abandoned ship, maybe it was another one? , Anyway my question is how can I retrieve the Serial Number from the menu of a Trimble ATS 600 through the CU?
My Warning ties right in with the Question,
I'll Try to keep this short although it is a rather long boring story.
I purchased a Trimble 600 ATS from a fellow from out of town on a local classified ad; my plan was to just flip it for a profit- Wrong... I received the unit powered it on and went through some menus etc. Then listed it for sale.
The buyer says, "don’t ship it to me instead take it to your local equipment dealer" for them to check out. So I agree since I know them, they fill out the claim check and they can't find the serial number (sticker) and I hadn't even realized up to this point that it was missing. (Bad on my part) anyway the dealer ships it to the buyer. Bob Wayman in Warsaw Indiana MCE Survey Equipment or Midwest Construction Equipment. After a couple weeks he decides that he does not want the instrument and mostly because the serial number sticker is missing. And wants a partial refund or to return the unit. I totally can understand the serial number issue and allowed the return based on that fact and apologized for the inconvenience.
My second mistake was refunding the money before I received the unit back;
well I only received part of the instrument back. (Missing the Cu controller, blank faceplate, two antennas, and RMT prism. The return package was about 4-5 lbs lighter than when sent originally.
So basically I got screwed by this guy, I gave him the opportunity and he took advantage of me. I guess he figured if the unit actually was stolen equipment that what would I do to track it down?? That and the time and money to pursue him would be a wash. I’ve called him and emailed him and have gotten nowhere.
Oh well I've lived and learned. But I feel better about posting a Warning about this dishonest businessman Bob Wayman from Warsaw IN. MCE Equipment. He buys and sells online as well as from his local business.
Now for those of you who might happen to know him and or have had good dealings with him Great- that’s good news for you. But to the others be smarter than me when dealing with him.
Thanks for listening.
I have dealt with this guy. Bought a topcon gts-226 from him. Got here, and the ts would not communicate with the dc. Called him, and he told me I was all wrong, blah blah blah. So I asked him if he hooked it up to a collector before he shipped it, he told me he calibrated it and knows it works. Ok, so that means no. He got pissy and told me to ship it back, and he would send me another. Next ts arrives and communicates with the dc, and we go to work. Start to set up and the level vial and level bubble in the tribrach do not agree at all, and the optical plummet on the ts does not agree with tribrach optical plummet I own! Not to mention all reverse back sights were exactly 180-40-00! WTF Bob! Co u call him again, and he tells me it is UPS's fault. Then he tells me to take it to precision products in knoxville, and "we will take care of you on that". So precision charges me$159 for a calibration and level adjustment. When I call Bob so he "can take care of it", he gets all pissy again and says he ain't paying for it. The guy at precision products said the TS looked like a chimpanzee had been trying to calibrate it.
It finally works, but I won't deal with MCE or Bob again.
Wow, what an A- h ole. But I guess I already knew that! hahaha.
I actually need to have one more transaction with him just so I can leave some appropriate feedback. I know it's more money but at this point it will be money well spent.
This proves that whenever possible, deal with local dealers and repair shops.
I still have not been able to find out a serial number from the instrument itself via a borrowed CU unit. anyone know how to access that info? or is there a serial number somewere inside the case?
Thanks for any suggestions.
I guess a "local" dealer may be the answer as well?
Thanks

In response to Mr. Madsen's claims.
A sad series of events poorly portrayed by JOSH MADSEN.
Yes, we purchased an instrument from him in MAY of 2013. It was dropped off at Rocky Mountain Transit in Salt Lake and then forwarded to us. When the unit arrived and was inspected, it was found ONLY THEN to have had all the serial numbers removed from the ATS600, Control CU and from the prism. A SURE sign of a stolen instrument. Mr. Madsen was made aware of this and agreed to refund our payment and that we would return the instrument. Mr. Madsen called me and stated that upon receipt that the packaging was destroyed and that the contents had been pilfered. He filed a claim with UPS. We shipped this back to him complete and the package weighed 2.7 more than when it showed up here again by UPS. We have been in the instrument business for 15 years with more than 15 thousand satisfied customers and never had an "issue" such as this. Mr. Madsen is a VERY unreasonable person that has made false assumptions and accusations about myself and my company. Disrupting our business and slandering our reputation was unfounded and IMMATURE at best. Also noted that Mr. Madsen has a reputation with the instrument dealers in the greater Salt Lake area of being dishonest and elusive. Take anything said by him with caution. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM HIM AS HE DEALS IN STOLEN EQUIPMENT.
Twenty nine out of thirty of the USED Topcon GTS-226's were delivered without any issues.
Present a bill to me and we'll pay the bill for the cal as promised.

Honesty & Integrity
The internet is a big place. I will stand by our reputation as the most honest in the industry. These two exceptions speak for themselves. Your-other-right allegations are unfounded. We have over 10,000 satified clients worldwide and promptly address ANY issue that is brought forward. Both claims posted here are unfounded and this was brought to my attention after he had the gun serviced.
Honesty & Integrity
Bob, you are a liar and a cheat. and I stand by my claim. If you don't like it then maybe you should consider being honest for once.
Yes you may have sold lots of equipment without very many issues- Congratulations! But given the opportunity you will lie and steal from hard working people.
I had my local Trimble dealer retrieve the serial number from the instrument and ran it through Trimble. It was not a stolen instrument like you lied to me on the phone about it being stolen. You didn't run the number and you lied about it being Stolen, on top of stealing my equipment.
Good luck in your future business dealings, just remember once you lie about something you usually continue lying to cover up the first lies. when does it ever stop?
