LOL! I get the idea that some surveyors are afraid to actually look for original evidence of boundaries. If you ever fall into that habit of actually searching diligently, you'll want to purchase a specialized tool called a "shovel" or perhaps a "spade", depending upon the soil type.

If the marker is important, whatever you do, please don't carefully examine it or document it in a way that you can use to demonstrate your observations in court. Don't even think about doing this! Who knows where finding the right answer will take you? Why you might have people calling you offering you a good fee to help them solve a mystery because you have these specialized skills. It happens.

That will take you away from your budding practice as a quickie-dickie surveyor and then where will you be?
