A buddy of mine is looking at possibly picking up a pair of Promark 2 units. Is anyone using these units with the latest GNSS Solutions?
I have NO experience with these units. He would be mixing and matching with my PM3 units, and occasionally the Hipers.
Thanks in advance.
Jimmy
I used 1 Promark2 Unit, 4 Locus units and 2 HiperLites (dual frequency). Anything with the Promark2 will be L1 only. I processed mine with Topcon Tools and sometimes had a problem. I have then processed them with my old version of Ashtech Solutions. One time I had to convert the Hiper Lite file to L1 only in order to process. After processing I put all of my vectors into StarNet with the Total Station traverses. So they will work, just more work than having all the same type of units. You do have to carry extra AA batteries with the Promark2. The Locus D cell batteries lasted all season. I've not used the GNSS program.
ProMarks are L1 only. They originally shipped with Ashtech Solutions, but GNSS Solutions is a much better program. I'm not sure about the ProMark 2's but the Locus units will not download into GNSS directly. You need to download them to Ashtech Solutions and then import the files into GNSS Solutions. GNSS has Blade technology that lets you do a Virtual Reference Station from available CORS. I've been very impressed with the results. It's worth the extra file management step....
Thanks for the replies.
I do know that the Promark 2 units are L1, as are my PM3 units.
I mix and match my PM3 units and my two Hipers (L1/L2) all the time.
I'll know more tomorrow after he does some research on the units.
Thanks,
Jimmy
Promark 2 GPS Units Work With GNSS Solutions
GNSS Solutions will download any Ashtech receiver that uses direct cable to computer. That includes the very first L-XII, M-XII and LM-XII. I did it just to prove it to myself. The problem is not with the Locus units themselves but with the infrared connection.
I have used my ProMark 2s with GNSS Solutions directly and in the VRS mode. No problems to date.
Adding a few PM2s to a stable of PM3s is very cost and productivity affective.

Jimmy,
If you mix and match the PM3 with the Hiper units, and process them in GNSS Solutions, I believe unless you've purchased the L1/L2 key at added expense (around $1K), the L2 frequency of the Hiper will not play into the solution, and it is as good as if you've got L1 only units. You probably know that.
