Yesterday's setup on GSVS193 in the median of US Hwy 30.?ÿ I'm rechecking my HI calibration by comparing my OPUS reported ellipsoidal height versus the value dug out of the GSVS14 project files on line.?ÿ I figure these marks have the most accurate values available in the area.
Somebody reported Not Found in 1981 on the disk on this abandoned railroad bridge abutment.?ÿ Found right where the description said.?ÿ I'm glad I decided to do this in May and not August when it would be hotter and buggier.?ÿ I only found one tick on me afterward.?ÿ Obviously not suitable for satellite observation.
Nice work Bill, keep it up and have fun.

In California you'd need an encroachment permit and an approved traffic control plan to do that.?ÿ Otherwise, 5 minutes after you set up a Caltrans inspector would pull up and order you out of the right-of-way.?ÿ (I've done some guerilla observations, but I've probably been tossed as many times as I've succeeded.)
Doesn't seem to be an issue in Iowa as far as I've seen.?ÿ If you aren't impeding traffic why should they care?
In this case I was at a crossover for a farmstead drive so had plenty of room to park and didn't have to walk across traffic lanes.
In Florida, the FDOT guy in the van doesn't work on Saturdays or at 2am. At 2am, County Deputies don't even stop and ask what you are doing.
Nice looking barn, I like the painting on the front. Thanks for sharing!!! Save safe out there.
I believe that is known as a barn quilt. ?ÿThey seem to be catching on.
Barn Quilts?ÿQuite spectacular. An interesting heritage, origins.
The American barn quilt movement started in Adams County, Ohio, when Donna Sue Groves painted a quilt block on her tobacco barn to honor her mother, a master quilter. Sac County embraced the barn quilt idea and quickly became the Iowa leader in the number of barn and community quilts painted and installed around the county. You can find barn quilts in at least 48 states and also in Canada. Barn quilts have been called the largest grassroots public art movement in this country.
That's what happens when you have a quilting wife. Bit like surveyors. Marks/quilts pop up when least expected.
Thanks Bill. Looks rather peaceful?ÿ
