Working in Arizona in January is a tough job.

Had to survey the end of a boat ramp for a new dock. What you see is today I let the Engineer play Surveyor and that is him in the water as I sat on the shore with the data collector.

I know they say it, but I keep losing the little plug that goes in the back, so mine has a 18" hole there. I don't think that is very water proof.

I use that ramp all the time. I have a base station set right up over the hill in the background. If I knew you were doing some work I could have come down there and given you a hand.

<--- Jealous!!! I am a heat and water lover. I'd live there or close by if I could!! Lake Havasu has always been one of my most favorite places on earth. And hey if you are surveying when it's hot out, you can just hop in the water to cool down like that guy is doing. 😉

Here's how that job would go up here in January:

1) Truck gets stuck in snow drift getting TO the boat ramp. Dig out.
2) Slip and fall on ice with GPS/Data collector and wondering if this is going to cost you big bucks. Thankfully, it still works.
3) Spend 30 minutes punching hole through ice for rod.
4) Spend another 30 minutes punching another hole because you hit a big rock on the bottom with the first one.
5) Gloves and hands get wet and you wonder if frost bite is setting in.
6) Get shot of bottom.
7) Get stuck going back OUT boat ramp road. Dig out.

Total time spent: 4 hours. Your estimated time (amount your getting paid per proposal): 1 hour.

Ya, after college 20+ years ago I moved back here and have been surveying in Lake Havasu ever since. Nothing beats a day starting at 5am done by 1pm and sitting in the water by 2 with a beer.
