Does anyone know where I can find good photos of instruments such as dumpy levels, wye levels, and old style transits?

I just found many of each with a simple google search under images. Are you looking for something different than that?

No just looking for generic images, just haven't found anything good except at one surveying history site that wouldn't let me save images.

I'm not familiar with Apple products but if you're using a Windows machine, try the following techniques for websites that won't let you save images.

While viewing the image, use the "print screen" key (assuming you have one) to save an image of your screen to the clipboard. Open an image editing program such as Paint and paste the screen shot into a blank image. Crop out the extraneous portions of the image and save the file.

The Snipping Tool is a quicker way to accomplish the same thing and is available in all versions of Windows Vista, 7, and 8 except the Starter and Basic editions. It's not available in Windows XP.

In Windows Vista and 7, click the Start button, select All Programs, then Accessories. Select the Snipping Tool from the list.

In Windows 8 start typing "snipping tool" while on the Start screen and select it from the Search results.

Let me know specifically what you want. I have quite a number of high quality images that have been used with my permission. These are my images so there is no problem using them. And include your email address and I'll send them back to you.

As to grabbing images that won't print try this:

- Open WORD on one side of your screen.

- Open your browser on the other side of your screen

- When you see an image you want, click on it and drag it into WORD. What will come over is a direct link to the image.

- Copy and past that link into your browser address bar. The image will open up and you can then save the image.
